Start by visiting Pico Alto, the highest point of the island with about 587 meters of altitude. The viewpoint is a privileged place with a panoramic view, where you can observe the green of the mountains, the blue of the sea and the brownish green that characterize the flatter areas of the island.
By walking through the Pico Alto Forest you can take advantage of the shade to see the Laurissilva vegetation, finding species such as Urze (/ Erica azorica /), Louro (/ Laurus azorica /) and Pau-branco (/ Picconia azorica /) .
With any luck you can get to know or hear the singing of Estrelinha-de-Santa-Maria (/ Regulus regulus sanctaemariae /), the smallest bird in Europe that only lives on this island.
The route ends at Prainha and Praia Formosa, beaches of white sand with clear water, where you can enjoy a swim and wait for another great night of the Festival Maré de Agosto.
